Central West End Midtown Development seeks to build on the area's status as a thriving, diverse, urban neighborhood, while preserving the residential core of our community. The Development Committee reviews development projects, providing recommendations to the Alderman and city committees, and plans for future development.

Development News

New Medical Building: Barnes-Jewish Hospital is planning a new 100,000-300,000 square foot building at the northwest corner of Euclid and Forest Park Avenue. The building will provide space for medical offices in which doctors in training can see private patients. The new building, which will replace two existing buildings on the site, will extend to the alley on the south side of the Majestic diner. The building will be four to six stories high, with vertical expansion possible later and first floor retail. Parking will be in the Laclede Avenue garage.

Shriners HospitalReturn of Shriners: Shriners Hospital’s Board of Directors has endorsed moving back to the WUMC campus. The $170 million hospital will be built at 4400 Clayton between Taylor and Newstead. The move will allow the hospital, which provides free orthopedic care to children, better access to the School of Medicine and Children’s Hospital. Click here to read more.

New McDonald's: The CWEMD Development Committee has recommended approval of a new McDonald's, subject to improvements in pedestrian and bicycle access. Click here to read more.

Citywalk On EuclidCitywalk on Euclid: Mills Properties will soon begin construction on Citywalk on Euclid, a seven-story residential development with 188 units and first-floor retail. The project, located at Euclid and West Pine, will replace the Doctors Building. Click here to read more.

Park East LoftsPark East Lofts: Opus Northwest has begun construction on the Park East Lofts, a six-story condominum building next door to its sister development, the Park East Tower. The project includes a public parking garage with 179 spaces. Click here to read more.

West End LoftsWest End Lofts: The former Ford Motor assembly plant at Forest Park Avenue and Laclede is being transformed into loft condos by developers Bill Bruce and Rick Yackey. Visit the West End Lofts website at www.westendlofts.com.


Indigo Hotel: The Roberts Brothers are remodeling the former Best Western Inn at the Park on Lindell into a boutique hotel under the Indigo hotel brand.

Melrose Building: Rothschild Development is renovating the Melrose Building at Sarah and West Pine into apartments geared toward students.

Solae: Employees of the Solae Co. have moved into their modern, "green" headquarters at Boyle and Duncan in the Cortex life sciences district.

BJC Resident Clinic: BJC is planning a new resident clinic with first-floor retail for the northwest corner of Forest Park Avenue and Euclid.

CET: The Center for Emerging Technologies is planning to expand to a third building to be located on Laclede between Sarah and Vandeventer, across from the U.S. Post Office in the Cortex life sciences district. The $27 million, 60,000-square-foot project will be used primarily for wet labs. Cannon Designs is working on a schematic design for a modern three-story structure.
