FPSEDC Infrastructure Committee
December 2, 2008
Forest Park Community Development Corp.
4371 Arco, St. Louis, MO 63112The FPSEDC
Infrastructure Committee at its December meeting began the process of
picking which projects to fund in the coming year.
The
committee has about $133,000 to work with in the next fiscal year,
which begins in July. Funds can be allocated toward infrastructure
projects such as street and alley paving, sidewalks, lighting, street
barriers and park improvements. The committee needs to submit its
recommendations to the Alderman by March 2009.
Projects
mentioned for possible funding include closing Oakland east of
Kingshighway; creating a barrier to prevent cars from cutting across
vacant lot at 4401 Gibson; curtailing traffic on the 4300 block of
Gibson; repaving the alley on Lawn in the Kings Oak neighborhood (due
to a collapsed sewer); and boosting funds to the ward’s 50-50 sidewalk
program. A separate pool of money is available for the new park at
Chouteau and Newstead.
Committee members
debated at length how to address cracked and crumbling sidewalks in the
neighborhood. Some, but not all, of the worst slabs are on the city’s
50-50 sidewalk list, a program where residents split the cost of
repairs with the city. Sidewalks are currently fixed based on wait
times and not necessarily on condition or location. A survey to
identify the worst sidewalks in the neighborhood may be conducted in
the spring.
Action items for January 6, 2009 meeting:
-
Committee members will identify potential infrastructure projects to add to master list.
-
Luke Reven, 17th Ward Neighborhood Stabilization Officer, agreed
to bring a list of neighborhood properties signed up for the 50-50
sidewalk program, as well as the current price per foot for sidewalks.
Committee member Erin O’Brien will furnish drawings to address the traffic problem in the 4400 block of Gibson.
Irving Blue, FPSEDC Executive Director, will provide an update on the repaving project in Kings Oak.
