Current Projects

Euclid Streetscape

Park Central Development is sponsoring the Euclid Streetscape Project for Euclid Avenue between Forest Park Avenue and Lindell -- including new sidewalks, lighting, street furniture, landscaping and public art. In addition, the streetscape project will feature rain gardens, which will address storm water problems, improve tree growth, and decrease wasted rainwater. Bike Racks and Cycling Infrastructure

The CWE Midtown Infrastructure Committee chose a bicycle rack design, to be implemented and installed in CWE South in 2012. The committee will also investigate further cycling infrastructure, including bicycle lanes throughout the area.

Past Projects

Street Repaving

Street repaving was completed on Spring, Duncan, and on Laclede between Kingshighway and Euclid. The project is funded by 17th Ward Infrastructure funds.

Tree Wells on Sarah

CWE Southeast SBD is contributing funds to maintain the tree wells on Sarah.

Buckingham/North Court

The street was paved with 17th Ward Infrastructure funds in 2010.

Taylor Avenue Lights

The pedestrian lights will make that stretch of Taylor Ave more attractive and safer for pedestrians at night, and will better connect Taylor south of Lindell to Taylor north of Lindell, which already has pedestrian lighting installed. Pedestrian lighting is another initiative to make the Central West End and the 17th Ward a more walkable, pedestrian-friendly, and vibrant community.

The $330,000 project was funded by various sources, including $60,000 from Washington University Medical Center, $30,000 from Central West End South Business District, and $100,000 from block grant. The remaining funding came from the 17th Ward Infrastructure Funds allocated by Alderman Joseph Roddy. Organizations contributing to the implementation of the project include Park Central Development (formerly Central West End Midtown Development), Washington University Medical Center, Board of Public Services, Comptroller’s Office, Community Development Agency, and Gerstner Electric.

Pedestrian Crossing Countdown Signals

Pedestrian crossing countdown signals have been installed at the intersections of Kingshighway and Laclede and Kingshighway and West Pine to increase pedestrian safety.

The Boyle & Laclede Community Garden

The garden is underway with raised beds, mulch, and other aesthetic and functional improvements with funding from the Infrastructure Committee and West Pine-Laclede Neighborhood Association. The garden consists of shared plots, and all members are free to take any of the produce.

Cutoff Cobrahead Lights

New cutoff fixtures are being installed in cobrahead lights throughout the neighborhood.

Sarah Streetscape

Sarah Street boasts new sidewalks, lighting and trees from Forest Park Avenue to Lindell, thanks to a streetscape project funded by 17th Ward infrastructure funds and designed by neighborhood residents.

Wayfinders

Four wayfinders have been installed on Euclid at Forest Park Avenue, Laclede, West Pine and Lindell to guide visitors to the Central West End. The wayfinders feature a map and listing of businesses.

CWE Signage

Signs directing visitors to the Central West End were installed along exterior streets.

Alley Repaving

Several alleys in the Central West End South have been repaved using 17th Ward infrastructure funds.

Street Maintenance

The Central West End South Special Business District has contracted with a landscape maintenance company to keep Euclid clean and neat  and take care of plants and flowers.

Pet Waste Stations

Pet waste stations were installed throughout the neighborhood to encourage owners to clean up after their pets.

Imagine Art Here

Neighborhood residents brainstormed ways to include public art in the neighborhood at a charrette sponsored by CWE Midtown Development.
